Pet-friendly hotels have seen a 132 per cent rise in bookings in the past year, according to hotel bookings and review site LateRooms.com.

The discount hotel specialist currently have almost 2000 pet-friendly hotels listed on the site, with all of them receiving steady bookings from pet owners.

Local dog walking routes, welcome packs on arrival and even dedicated pet minding services are all features at the hotels, some at only a supplement of just £5 a night.

Lynda Matthews, offline marketing manager at LateRooms.com, said: “We are delighted that there is so much demand for pet friendly hotels. Animal lovers of Great Britain clearly don't want to take a short break without their pet, and why should they?

“Hotels can now offer great rates and lovely facilities for pets, which can often work out better than leaving them at home or in boarding accommodation.”

To celebrate their increasing pet-friendly hotel offers, LateRooms.com recently hosted The Pets Factor - a talent contest for pets, offering stays at pet-friendly hotels for the winners.

Earlier this month, BigHospitality reported that the British hotel industry is potentially missing out on an additional £39m per night by not allowing pets to stay on the premises, according to research from MORE TH>N Pet Insurance.
