Sector skills council People 1st is to run a series of business bootcamps for owners and managers of pubs and bars in a bid to help them grow their businesses.

With latest figures showing that two pubs are closing a day, the bootcamps aim to give those in the industry top tips from trade experts to help them overcome any of the challenges involved in running a licensed outfit.

Primarily aimed at those who are new to the industry, the sessions are supported by both the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) who will provide experts to give advice.

Delegates can expect to focus on a number of topics including customer attraction and retention through world-class customer service, improving profitability and cash management, recruiting and motivating staff, maximising food profits, and health and food safety.

The first bootcamp, with guest presenter Alastair Scott, previously managing director of All Bar One, will take place from 7 to 9 November in Moorgate London. The cost is £399 plus VAT and includes a year's membership to the BII.
