The proposed order will extend licencing hours for the duration of a special four-day jubilee weekend. If agreed, pubs will be able to stay open until 1am on the nights of Friday 1 and Saturday 2 June.
“This is good news,” said BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds. “We have been calling for extra hours which will keep Britain’s pubs right at the heart of this huge national celebration, just as they were for the Royal Wedding.
“We will be hoping to persuade the Government to extend this further and certainly to the Olympics and Paralympics opening and closing ceremonies.”
The consultation runs for 7 weeks from 12 October to 1 December 2011. Responses will be analysed and a Response to Consultation document will be published.
