Carluccio’s, the all-day Italian café, has announced the launch of a new bar format, designed to attract after-work clientele to its busy city sites.

The Aperitivo Bar concept will replace the fresh food deli and barista bar area of each site every evening, offering customers an Italian bar experience.

“We have always traded well at traditional mealtimes such as breakfast, lunch and supper as well as during the day,” said Simon Kossoff, Carluccio’s chief executive.

“The new Aperitivo Bar offer has been designed specifically to attract an after-work early evening clientele, increasing traffic between the quieter hours of 5pm and 7pm whilst offering our guests the same great value and genuine Italian experience they have come to expect.”

The bars will feature soft lighting, more upholstered seating and additional banquettes as well as high-topped tables and bar stools.

‘Grazing’ alternative

With the aim of providing diners with a ‘grazing’ alternative to the main food menu, Aperitivo Bars will serve Venetian-style tasting dishes. Small plates priced betweej £2.50 and £4.95 include choices such as Italian meatballs, fried pasta crisps, stuffed chicken leg and tuna-stuffed peppers, alongside a selection of cured meats and cheeses.

The drinks list on offer at the bars is exclusively Italian, offering beer on draught as well as by the bottle. There is also a range of contemporary cocktails and a selection of regional wines, all of which are available by the glass.

Carluccio’s was established by Antonio Carluccio in 1991. The current management team, including Kossoff and chairman Stephen Gee, have led the rollout of the concept, having teamed up with Carluccio in the late 1990s. Last year, Carluccio’s joined Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Yo! Sushi in hitting the 50-site milestone.
