The Wolseley all-day-café-restaurant in London’s Piccadilly has appointed Lawrence Keogh as new head chef from January 2012.

Keogh will be joining The Wolseley from Roast restaurant in Borough Market, which he opened with Iqbal Wahhab in 2005. He has been in the restaurant industry for more than 30 years and previously held the position of head chef at the Avenue, Bluebird and Quo Vadis.

He regularly appears on television and has produced two recipe books, Food For Life, from which all proceeds went to the National Kidney Foundation and Rediscovering Food & Flavours: The Kidney Care Cookbook, developed with Shire and available free of charge. He has also been involved with World Kidney Day, highlighting the plight of those who are suffering with Kidney Disease.

BigHospitality recently revealed that Rex Restaurant Associates Limited, owners of The Wolseley, are to open a second all-day-café-restaurant in London’s Covent Garden later this month.

Spice Market & W Hotel

Meanwhile, Spice Market and London’s W Hotel has appointed Peter Lloyd as executive chef, responsible for all food operations across both the restaurant and the hotel.

Lloyd, who trained at the Dorchester before taking executive positions at London hotspots including Suka, the Malaysian restaurant and BANK, will be working with three-Michelin-starred chef and restaurant founder Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

“The pairing of Spice Market with the W brand here in London has been one of the most exciting launches on the London hotel and restaurant scene this year,” said Lloyd. “It is a privilege to be involved at such a senior level. I look forward to working with the team to continue and even exceed the incredibly high standards they have achieved so far.”

Ian Ciappara, general manager of W London, said: “We are delighted to welcome Peter in his new role. His knowledge of local tastes and flavours combined with his vast culinary experience will be a driving force for the food programming of all venues at W London.”

Spice Market and W London opened in February this year. Jean-Georges Vongerichten, with his company Culinary Concepts, now operates four Spice Market restaurants – the others being in Atlanta, Doha and New York, the flagship site.
