Cliveden House Hotel, the former Von Essen property in Buckinghamshire, has been sold to the billionaire property developer brothers Ian and Richard Livingston.

The sale of the 41-bedroom Thameside hotel is the 20th Von Essen property to be sold by property agents Christie & Co, who have been handling the sale of the Group’s entire portfolio following its collapse into administration last April.

“The sale of Cliveden is the pinnacle of our work to date on behalf of the administrators of von Essen Hotels,” said Chris Day, international managing director of Christie & Co. “This renowned hotel has a new owner who will make complete the investment required to meet the growing demands of the international leisure and corporate customers of the business."

Angela Swarbrick, joint administrator, added: “We are very pleased to announce the sale of another Von Essen property and we look forward to announcing further sales in the weeks ahead."

The Livingstone brothers

The Livingstone brothers, who are behind David Lloyd Leisure and a string of top hotels including Chewton Glen in Hampshire, are understood to have paid nearly £30m off a guide price of £35m for a long lease from the National Trust.

Cliveden House Hotel will require a large amount of investment to restore it. Companies that have acquired some of the collection include Brownsword Hotels , Halycon Hotels & Resorts and The Eden Collection .

The sale leaves eight former Von Essen hotels looking for buyers, but none of which are in administration and they will all continue to trade as usual.
