Interior design practice RPW has won the inaugural Hotelympia Design Award for its work on the Royal Suite at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in London.

RPW's Jan Wilson picked up the award at the trade show on Monday after judges, including hotelier Alex Polizzi and De Vere's Robert Cook, had decided on their winner out of three finalists which included the Royal Suite at Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London and Pavilion Number One, Lime Wood Hotel in Hampshire.

Head judge and GS Magazine editor Stirling Johnstone said: "In each case our judges recognised that the designers had enhanced the space they had inherited, adding quality, beauty and high end products without impacting on functionality. Good design is innate to each of our judges, they were unanimous that the Mandarin Oriental was to be our eventual winner; put simply, the level of aesthetic beauty and quality allowed the space to speak for itself.”
