Glenfiddich has launched its first 19-year-old single malt Scotch whisky matured in oak casks previously used to age fine Madeira wine.

Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Madeira Cask Finish celebrates Portuguese explorers in the 15th Century. The blend features aromas of ripe fig, caramelised fruit and spicy notes of cinnamon and black pepper.

“We are delighted to be launching a range of whiskies which celebrate and remember the Age of Discovery,” said Glefiddich’s malt master, Brian Kinsmann.

“In 1886, our founder, William Grant set out on his very own journey to fulfil a lifelong ambition. With the help of his family he built The Glenfiddich Distillery by hand and, nearly 125 years later, this pioneering spirit remains.

“It’s truly wonderful to release Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Madeira Cask Finish, which is the first time Glenfiddich has used Madeira casks to finish a whisky, and celebrates the pioneering spirit we share with such intrepid explorers.”

The new product’s packaging aims to provide an instant on-shelf standout. The black glass bottle is embellished with a red cartouche compass and encased in an outer display box, adorned with creative illustrations mapping out the travels of Portuguese explorers.

Gran Reserva

Meanwhile, the brand has also unveiled new packaging for its 21-Year-Old Gran Reserva.

The new presentation features a deep burgundy theme, embellished with an intricately designed filigree pattern on the bottle label and box, which also houses a display plinth and a booklet highlighting the Glenfiddich 21 Year Old heritage and story.

Katie Rawll, Glenfiddich global brand director, said: “We wanted the Glenfiddich 21 Year Old new packaging to reflect the exceptional taste and provenance of the high quality liquid inside.  We’re thrilled with the results, which beautifully showcase an excellent whisky that is sure to make the perfect gift.”

The new-look bottle also bears the signature of Glenfiddich's malt master Kinsman.
