Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI), which manages a portfolio of small, luxury hotels across Scotland, is set to open its seventh site – a four-suite hotel in Edinburgh – in May.

The Atholl hotel is located on Atholl Crescent in the heart of the city’s New Town. With prices starting at £1000 per suite per night, each suite features its own dining room, living room and kitchen. In-room dining for all four suites will be overseen by legendary chef Albert Roux.

“The Atholl is something completely new,” Norbert Lieder, managing director of ICMI, told BigHospitality. “It’s a completely new concept and it’s at the very end of the luxury market.

“Our company is based on providing the right level of service - and that is something that can be better-achieved on smaller properties, where you have the opportunity to look after guests in the way you want to.

“One of the main differences between the Atholl and a normal hotel is that we’ve integrated everything into the suites so that the property doesn’t have any public areas such as bars and restaurants. So once a customer is in a suite, we will take care of all facilities, they will have their own chef and service staff.”

Roux, who is head of the famous cooking dynasty behind the likes of Le Gavroche, will oversee a team of private chefs, preparing bespoke menus and offering a selection of some of the world’s finest wines. The chef started working with ICMI in 2005, as a culinary consultant with Inverlochy Castle.

“We’ve been working with Albert for a long time now,” added Lieder. “His expertise, experience and visions are second-to-none and we are delighted to have him involved here. He will take care of all of the F&B offerings and he will come on a regular basis to make sure everything is the way he likes it to be.”

The Atholl’s four suites:

  • The Palmerston - one-bedroom, 1065 sq.ft suite
  • The Cluny - two-bedroom 1593 sq.ft suite
  • The Abercromby — three-bedroom 2885 sq.ft suite with terrace and hot tub
  • The Dundonald — three-bedroom 3145 sq.ft suite

The hotel will also be available for leisure and business guests and could be used for hosting drinks receptions, weddings, art shows and corporate events.

Speaking of ICMI’s potential expansion into other parts of the UK, Lieder said: “From an ICMI point of view, we are certainly not limited to Scotland and we would like to open more sites in the UK in the future.

“I think it is absolutely a concept that could work in London. The Athol is something that we see working eventually in other cities and we are currently looking at other countries as well.”
