Harbour Hotels has been granted planning permission for a super-yacht inspired £25m luxury 76-bed hotel at Southampton's Ocean Village Marina; building work is expected to start within weeks.

The Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa , details of which were first revealed on BigHospitality in November, will feature a spa, gym and swimming pool, as well as a restaurant and champagne roof terrace.

The Christchurch-based company is hoping to bring chef Alex Aitken on board to deliver the hotel restaurant in a similar style to The Jetty restaurant which sits within the grounds of the Christchurch Harbour Hotel in Dorset. Harbour Hotels chairman Nicolas Roach explained: "Southampton city lacks a five star hotel product. We intend to bring a luxury waterfront Hotel and Spa to the city along with our award winning Jetty restaurant concept."

The hotel will also contain function rooms which will it is hoped will attract business from events taking part alongside the Southampton Boat Show. Harbour Hotels and MDL Marinas Group are also set to deliver a retail and restaurant arcade and 82 waterfront apartments as part of the building work.
