The Lotus Professional brand has introduced a natural, unbleached napkin using recycled paper to its JustOne range which it says will help hospitality businesses display their green and sustainable credentials.

The 2-ply napkins are made from entirely recycled fibres and are unbleached giving a natural colour. They are provided wrapped in totally recycled paper and like the rest of the JustOne range of napkins are both biodegradable and compostable. They also carry the EU Ecolabel certification.

Environmental credentials

Georgia-Pacific, which manufactures the Lotus Professional range of tissue products and dispensing systems, say surveys showed a napkin is seen by diners as being more environmentally friendly when it looks and feels like it has been produced using recycled paper.

Nathalie Flandre, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) category manager at Georgia-Pacific for the JustOne brand, said the un-dyed natural napkins could benefit hospitality operators wanting to reassure customers that the napkins had strong environmental credentials.

"We recognise that the appearance of a product, alongside the overall strength and thickness of a napkin, is key to customer satisfaction. JustOne natural premium quality napkins reinforce the JustOne system benefits and meet consumers’ perception of environmental friendliness, helping restaurateurs to show customers that they care about the environment," she said.

The natural JustOne napkins are produced using a mix of brown and white fibres made from a mix of white waste paper and corrugated cardboard.

JustOne

Georgia-Pacific say the JustOne range, a single sheet dispensing system that provides a hygienic way of making sure diners only touch the napkin they need, helps reduce napkin consumption by around 30 per cent. Use of JustOne also reduces carbon footprint, cuts storage, handling and disposal costs and ensures more time can be sent with customers rather than replenishing stock or cleaning waste, according to the manufacturers.

The JustOne range, including the new natural napkin, are food contact certified and can be customised with messages, logos or offers using a three colour printing design.
