UV-C Miracle Wand kills germs
A light wand which claims to kill 99 per cent of germs, bacteria and viruses has been launched in the UK by MBR Imports who believe it will help chefs, restaurateurs and hoteliers to run a more hygienic business.

Product details:

The UV-C Miracle Wand (pictured) uses a special UV light which kills off germs, bacteria and viruses on any surface in 20 seconds. Suitable for use on hard or soft surfaces, users simply swipe the wand across the area they want to use to disinfect it. Because of its ease and use and lack of chemicals, the product is being targeted at chefs, hoteliers, restaurateurs and other members of the hospitality industry who need to keep commercial kitchens and public areas clean and hygienic.

The wand does not need to use chemicals, but guarantees killing off harmful bacteria that could lead to food poisoning if not dealt with, which, MBR Imports managing director Rose Latchmann-Bloom says makes it ideal for use in kitchens.

"It's environmentally friendly, low energy and there are no after effects that you might get from using strong chemicals. It has been used a lot in America and Europe and since we launched it earlier this year, have seen interest from many chefs who like its ease of use and peace of mind," she said.

The UV-C Miracle Wand is priced at £99.99. It comes with a replaceable UV bulb which gives 5,000 hours of use.

Why you should buy it:

Kitchens are always under pressure to operate in as hygienic environment as possible and this product could help them to achieve that, says Latchmann-Bloom and chefs who have trialled the product have reportedly already seen results.

Fortuna Fatmir, head chef at Cento in Wimbledon, has been using the Wand for several months. She said: “No matter how vigorous our cleaning regimes are in the kitchens, there is always the potential risk that bacteria and viruses responsible for food poisoning, remains on hard to clean surfaces or appear soon afterwards. We use the Wand throughout the day and again at the end of each shift after cleaning.

"We recently had a hygiene inspection and the inspector was highly impressed with our cleaning routine, going as far as to ask what products we were using in our cleaning regime."
