Drake & Morgan, the City-based bar group led by Jillian Maclean, has announced a record pre-tax profit of almost £1.3m for the year ending 31 March 2012, a 33 per cent rise on the previous year.

The privately-owned company, which last month revealed plans to open two more sites in 2013, turned over 16.4m in the 52 weeks to the end of March, a rise of 44 per cent on the previous year.

In a trading statement, the operator of The Refinery, The Parlour, The Folly, The Anthologist and The Drift, said the results 'exceeded expectations' and that it was already set to put a 'strong pipeline of sites in place' that would start with The Happenstance at St Paul’s and The Haberdashery at Holborn next year.

Managing director Maclean said: “This is an exceptionally strong performance from Drake & Morgan. UK expansion has continued with the opening of The Drift and we are looking forward to bringing two new concepts to the City next year.”
