The 61-bedroom Hotel Indigo Birmingham-Waterloo Street will be located within the city's Colmore Business District as part of the Colmore Row conservation area. It will be the second venue under IHG's self-styled boutique brand in Birmingham after the first opened in the Cube building last year.
"Since introducing the brand to Europe in 2009, we’ve opened nine hotels – seven in the United Kingdom and two in Germany. This year we’ve also signed our first Hotel Indigo in Wales, the Hotel Indigo Cardiff; our third in Scotland, Hotel Indigo Edinburgh-Princes Street; our fourth in Germany and our first Hotel Indigo property in Israel," Robert Shepherd, IHG’s chief development officer in Europe, said.
Shepherd said the brand was popular with European developers as it suits conversion properties, which are easier to finance than new builds and can become operational sooner. The second Birmingham venue will be managed by Rustic Pine Developments Limited.
