Following a two-hour final cook-off yesterday afternoon at the Show's Competition Theatre, Abbott beat off competition from seven other candidates for the senior title, cooking a four-course meal for a panel of international judges.
"The Compass Chef of the Year is the pinnacle of our competition year," said Nick Vadis, UK executive chef for the Compass Group. "The chefs here today have cooked in several cook-offs up and down the country to be here. So to be here in itself is an achievement."
Twenty-year-old Duthie was named the Junior Compass Chef of the Year in the final which was held earlier in the day. The finals were the culmination of regional heats that were been conducted across the whole of the Compass UK & Ireland business.
This year, a new award was also given out in both competitions - the Know your Food award - recognising the sustainability and sourcing of the dishes.
