Introducing simpler food and no-bookings policies has helped London's restaurants survive the recession says the food and drink editor of Time Out London as the publication reveals the winners of its Eating & Drinking Awards 2012.

The annual awards, which ask the magazine's reviewers to recognise the best new bars, destination restaurants, and casual dining venues in the capital, saw The Delaunay take the accolade of Best New Restaurant while 10 Greek Street picked up the award for Best No Bookings Restaurant.

Time Out London food and drink editor Guy Dimond said this year's awards categories reflected a 'busy year in fast-moving food and drink trends' and proved that London's hospitality industry was 'laughing in the face of recession'.

"Restaurateurs have adapted to changed circumstances by creating no-bookings restaurants, which have faster turnover; with a trend for simpler restaurant food, exemplified by the explosion of meat and barbecue joints; and by embracing more casual drinking venues but with no compromise on the thrill of the drinks offered, which you find in the new craft beer bars. It’s been a great year for going out,” he said.
