Wear Inns, the Northern managed community pub operator, has continued its rapid expansion strategy with the acquisition of two sites from Orchid Pub Group.

The purchase of The Colonel Prior in Sunderland and The Park in Bradford take the Wear Inns portfolio to 26 after making a total of 11 acquisitions since July when the company secured a new £10m wave of funding from two private equity firms.

According to John Weir, co-founder and managing director of the North east-based firm, both pubs fit into the business strategy of expanding into community-focused venues with a potential for development.

"In 2006 our objective was to acquire 20 pubs across the North East and Yorkshire, so we have achieved this and more over the years. We were clear that managed pubs were the way to go as they are clearly driving the market in terms of positive like-for-like growth. This year has been phenomenal and we are delighted to complete the second part of our acquisition strategy."
