French-based technology company Locatel, which provides interactive multimedia, entertainment, communications, information and connectivity systems for the hospitality and healthcare sectors has bought Docomo Intertouch Europe, a technology supplier to hotels based in London with expertise in broadband Wi-Fi, in-room entertainment and managed web platforms.
The move is expected to give customers of both companies a wider range of web-based and multi-media services to choose from. The news follows the company's announcement last month that it was also forming an alliance with Hoist Technology, a supplier of back office technology systems to the hospitality industry.
The acquisition means that hotels using Locatel's services will now be able to offer new services to staff and guests such as supplying dedicated portals to meetings organisers and access to project management services as well as technical support, billing and reporting options alongside all the in-room technology it offers currently.
Having access to Docomo's ‘Freedom Suite’ of solutions will also allow customers to access new services such as teleconferencing facilities and business centre solutions. In addition, Locatel systems are also cloud based, meaning hotels have no need for a server on their premises.
