The St John hotel and restaurant in Chinatown has been placed into administration
St John Chinatown Limited, the company which operates the St John hotel, restaurant and bar in Leicester Street, London, has entered administration, it has been confirmed.

The development comes less than a year after Trevor Gulliver and chef Fergus Henderson opened the business after a lengthy process to get the building ready for its launch as the latest part of the St John group.

Trade continues

The business is continuing to trade as normal and the rest of the St John group remains unaffected as the Chinatown project was originally set up as a separate company.

A spokesperson for accountancy firm RSM Tenon confirmed: "Timothy Dolder and Trevor Binyon were appointed Joint Administrators of St John Chinatown Limited on 19 October 2012. The business is continuing to trade whilst we seek a buyer."

The venture, which received its first Michelin star last month, contains a restaurant, 15-bedroom hotel and bar and has been open to the public since spring 2011.

It is not yet known whether the the St John group will seek to buy back the business.

The group was founded by Gulliver and Henderson in 1994 with the opening of the original St John restaurant in Smithfield which earlier this year dropped out of the list of The World's 50 Best Restaurants.
