In a ceremony at Battersea Evolution in London on Thursday, the so-called 'Oscars of the travel industry' were awarded to the best airports, tour operators, holiday firms and other travel companies.
Hotels, resort groups and hotel booking websites were also recognised with Premier Inn pipping Warner Leisure Hotels and RIU Hotels & Resorts to the leisure hotel title.
Sandals scooped the Best All-inclusive Hotel/Resort Company accolade and the luxury hotel or resort prize. LateRooms.com was recognised as the best on-line booking website while Cottages 4 You was named Best Villa/Self-catering Booking Company.
"Topping one million votes and opinions cast was an important milestone for us," Lorraine Barnes Burton, British Travel Awards chief executive, said. "This year we introduced a fairer system for the tour operator awards so the large companies didn’t walk away with everything and the smaller companies got a look in and this has worked very well," she added.
