No.12 Picardy Place in Edinburgh, former home to Mark Greenaway’s eponymous restaurant, is re-launching as a boutique hotel, bar and terrace under new branding and with new directors The Edinburgh New Town Company.

Under the name Twelve Picardy Place, the 10-bedroom hotel will open next month after an entire overhaul of the entry level of the property, with a new terrace area, wine vault, hotel lounge and reception.

Twelve Picardy Place will continue to house the Steak Edinburgh restaurant, which launched in February of this year and operated alongside Restaurant Mark Greenaway at the hotel until earlier this month when Greenaway told BigHospitality he is moving to a location closer to the city centre.

Michele Civiera, director of Steak and the Edinburgh New Town Company which now owns the property, said: “Following the opening of our highly successful restaurant Steak Edinburgh on Picardy Place, we are delighted to announce the takeover of No.12 Picardy Place which heralds a new and exciting chapter for our new brand Twelve Picardy Place with a development of 10 luxury hotel rooms, a new hotel bar, wine vault and terrace.

Style & luxury

“This is a very exciting time for us indeed and we look forward to the official launch in December.”

HK Surveying & Design were approached by Twelve Picardy Place to refurbish the unused upper floors of the townhouse into design-led, individually styled bedrooms and suites. Each bedroom is named after Scottish lochs and features soaking tubs, rainforest showers and 3D TVs.

With space for over 100 covers, Steak offers a range of bespoke carving dishes which are all cooked to order and carved in front of diners. The beef is hand-selected by the restaurant’s head chef Jason Wright and a selection of wines, seasonal cocktails and home-made milkshakes all also feature on the menu.

Meanwhile, Restaurant Mark Greenaway has now closed and a lease is being finalised on the new larger premises, which will almost double the number of covers from 36 to 60 and will allow Greenaway to capitalise on Edinburgh’s lunch trade.
