Anthony's Restaurant, the fine-dining eatery opened in Leeds by Anthony Flinn, is to be relocated to the city's Corn Exchange to join another of the chef's businesses - Piazza by Anthony.

The 40-cover Boar Lane venue was originally opened in 2004 but will be moved to the historic Corn Exchange on 9 April.

Next level

A new dining room will be created in the 13,500sq.ft site which is currently the home of Piazza by Anthony - a 118-cover brasserie, bar, private dining room, cafe, rib restaurant (Rib Shakk) and four retail units.

The main kitchen at the Corn Exchange will be remodelled to allow space for both teams to work together but Anthony's Restaurant itself will continue to seat just 40 diners and will offer just one sitting at lunch and one at dinner.

"The move to the Corn Exchange is the obvious next step which will give us an opportunity to take our fine-dining restaurant to the next level," said a statement for the restaurant.

"Throughout the last 9 years we have grown and improved, just like the city, expanding and bringing our flair and creativity to other areas of dining."

Greater flexibility

The existing kitchen and front-of-house team will make the move to the new site but a spokesperson for the restaurant said the new space would allow the chefs to continue to innovate.

"The expanded facilities that are made possible by the greater flexibility of space within the Piazza site will allow us to showcase dishes and techniques that were impossible in the small kitchen of the current Boar Lane site."

The three-AA rosette restaurant was launched by Flinn after a career which has seen the chef move from Huddersfield Technical College, where he was trained, to work with John Campbell at the Lords of the Manor hotel before working for Ferran Adrià for two years at El Bulli, former number one in the list of The World's 50 Best Restaurants.

Before the move, Flinn, who was named in the inaugural Northern Restaurant & Bar Show Top 50, will be running a series of nostalgic menus before a special evening where nine chefs who have worked at Boar Lane will return for one night only.
