London-based bar operator ETM Group has just agreed terms to open a modern European restaurant and cocktail bar on the ground floor of the One Canada Square skyscraper in Canary Wharf.

The 5,000 sq.ft site, which will carry the same name as the office building in which it operates, will open in September, comprising a 30-cover bar and 100-cover restaurant with a mezzanine floor.

Tom Martin, who co-founded the privately-owned ETM Group with his brother Ed in 2000,said: “We have been looking for a site in Canary Wharf for several years now and are delighted to have been given the opportunity by our landlord, Canary Wharf Group, to launch a brand new restaurant and cocktail bar at the epicentre of Canary Wharf.

“We love this dynamic and constantly developing area and the customer base is exactly what ETM is geared towards.”

Paying tribute to the 800ft, 50-storey building that it sits within, One Canada Square restaurant and bar is being designed by David Collins Studio. In keeping with the grandeur of the tower, the interior of the restaurant and bar will feature some of the lobby’s trademark green Italian and Guatemalan marble to create beautiful pillars as a backdrop to the venue.

ETM Group's success

Camille Waxer, chief administrative officer of Canary Wharf Group, added: “ETM Group is a company that we have been looking to work with for several years. We really like their offer and One Canada Square will be the perfect fit with the people working at and visting Canary Wharf.”

One Canada Square follows on from the recent ETM Group successes of The Botanist in Sloane Square and Chiswell Street Dining Rooms in the City. The Group also owns and operates eight gastropubs in central London including The Gun (Docklands), The Jugged Hare (Barbican) and The White Swan (City).

Meanwhile, Canary Wharf has over 240 shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, which are 100 per cent let. There is currently 154,000 sq.ft of new retail space being built at Jubilee Place Shopping Mall extension and above the Canary Wharf Crossrail Station.
