Alex Hucker, a chef at the Four Seasons hotel in Hampshire, has been named the 35th Chaîne des Rôtisseurs’ UK Young Chef of the Year 2013.

Hucker, who just beat Greig Young of The Vineyard, Stockcross and Michael Cruikshank of Ashdown Park, to first place, was one of eight chefs under the age of 27 to compete in the competition's final at the Ministry of Defence's Worthy Down Catering Services Wing where they were tasked with making a three course meal for four people from a mystery box of ingredients within three hours.

The winning chef's menu of pan-fried seared mackerel fillet, golden beetroot, saffron, cous cous and baby leeks; roast breast of guinea fowl, butternut squash, potato fondant and baby onions and plum and hazelnut crème brulee tart won over judges, who included Daniel Galmiche of the Vineyard at Stockcross who said all menus 'embraced thought and creativity'.

Hucker wins a placement with Anton Mosimann and the chance to compete in the World Finals in Istanbul this autumn.
