Mezzè Restaurants, the South West-based, family-run restaurant group, is set to open its fifth site in as many years next month, with overall plans to expand to up to 15 outlets across the region.

The Mediterranean chain has taken a 20-year lease on The Anchor at Ham Green in Bristol, which will re-open as Mezze at the Anchor Arms on 4 May following a £350,000 refurbishment.

“We are thrilled to be reviving another community pub and injecting a new lease of life into The Anchor,” said Mezzè owner Alex Tryfonos, who lives just one mile away from the new restaurant.

“The pub has experienced an unsettled past with a series of landlords ion the past few years but we want to stabilse its future and create a thriving community pub.

“All of the venues we have transformed have been in need of some TLC and through our substantial investment we have helped to raise the profile of several areas. We hope that the community will get behind us and offer their support to this exciting new venture.”

Mezzè at the Anchor Arms will be redesigned into a modern venue with a cocktail bar, Mezzè restaurant, a separate a la carte restaurant and an outdoor Mediterranean garden.

South West expansion

The group recently spent a further £400,000 redeveloping The Warwick Arms in Clutton and Mezzè at the Anchor Arms will be followed by the opening of Mezzè at The White Lion in Portishead in June/July.

A spokesperson for the restaurant told BigHospitality ‘there are huge plans for the business.’

“The aim is to open two per year - I believe the plan is to get to around 15 in the South West region,” said the spokesperson.

A series of pre-launch evenings will take place at the revamped Mezzè at The Anchor Arms from 30 April, allowing Bristol residents to see the transformation of the site.
