The Moet UK Sommelier of the Year competition took place in London last week with Clement Robert of Medlar in Chelsea, finally taking the title after five attempts.

Robert worked hard to attain his goal and was relieved to have won, but what goes in to the Academy of Food & Wine Service's competition and what does it take to win it?

Kicking off a three-day focus on wine on BigHospitality, this video, from the final at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London, shows the work involved and demonstrates the in-depth knowledge and high service skills required of sommeliers today.

As Jan Konetzki, winner of the 2012 title reveals, much of what the competition involves is based on a sommelier's daily routine, but with the added pressure of being judged in front of a live audience.

Watch the video for his thoughts on the competition, an interview with this year's winner and what it will mean to him as well as tips on how to become the Moet UK Sommelier of the Year.
