The London Marriott Hotel County Hall has announced a new partnership with The Edge Hotel School after Luke Teeling became the first student from the Essex-based hotel school to complete an internship at the South Bank venue.

Teeling, who is currently on a hotel management course at The Edge Hotel School, was approached to complete a three-week internship at the hotel shortly after he enrolled on his course. He worked in the sales & marketing office, the private dining & meetings area and Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar - which was opened last year.

"Whilst working at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall, the experience and knowledge I gained also enabled me to practice my own management style and knowledge of the industry," Teeling said.

Theresa Maw, general manager of the hotel, said the experience had gone so well she would be keen to take on more students from The Edge Hotel School. "We are delighted to have welcomed Luke to the Marriott County Hall and hope that he both learned a lot and enjoyed the experience of working in a five-star hotel in London.

“We are sponsors of the Edge Hotel School initiative and I look forward to many more students joining us on work placement," she added.

Not sure this is news

Posted by Crispin Farbrother,

Whilst all partnerships between industry and educational establishments should be applauded I cannot see any news here. The story given is not really a story at all as it is happening all the time across the UK between large and small employers and colleges and universities. As well as direct links being formed between universities and industry players organisations such as CHME PATH and Springboard work on developing relationships that are for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Here at Bournemouth University we have dozens of such examples and I am sure my peers across the UK can shout the same message.
