The Wenlock Arms, Islington, London - 3 June
Earlier this year, The Wenlock Arms in Islington became the first pub to be saved from demolition by the extension of a nearby conservation area - this month the pub re-opened under its new local ownership.
The Wenlock Road pub was set to be knocked down until Hackney Council rejected the plans. However the historic venue was still in danger so a local campaign was launched which led to the council's decision to extend the Regent's Canal Conservation Area.
The move prevented any development which would change the character of the early Victorian property.
New owner Heath Ball, who also runs Highgate pub The Red Lion & Sun, has re-opened the pub with a drinks offer focused on real ale.
