The pubs are located in Cardiff, Cramlington, Aldridge, Lowestoft, Leek, Bideford, Bolsover and Honiton. The openings are part of Wetherspoon's plans to open 30 new pubs in 2013,creating 1,200 jobs and taking the firm’s estate to just under 900 venues across the UK.
“We are very pleased to be opening eight new pubs and creating so many jobs in one month," said the group's chairman Tim Martin. “Our pubs continue to prove popular and it is especially rewarding to be opening outlets in a number of areas where we are not yet represented.”
Martin, who founded JD Wetherspoon over 30 years ago aged just 24, said that the number of new pub and bar openings this year would have been greater but for the punitive tax regime facing the industry.
The new pubs will create 400 full and part-time jobs.
