Less than two weeks after the new head chef at the Hambrough restaurant revealed his ambitions to reinvigorate the business, his counterpart at the Pond Café – set within the same hotel on the Isle of Wight – has left the job.

Chris Denney, who started his role as head chef at the 30-cover Pond Café in May, is leaving ‘by mutual consent to pursue other interests’. Denney’s sous chef Joe Gould will be now taking over the head chef position.

“Chris will be continuing to expand upon his worldwide culinary knowledge,” said a spokesperson for the Hambrough Group.  “He plans initially to spend a couple of months in Brazil doing stages at top restaurants.

“The Hambrough Group would like to wish Chris every success for the future.”

Darren Beevers, who is heading up the Hambrough’s main restaurant, recently said he wants to take the Group to ‘the next level’,following Robert Thompson’s departure and John Campbell’s withdrawal from the Isle of Wight business earlier this year.
