Mike DeNoma, chief executive of Thistle Hotels' parent company glh., is to join staff from the hotel firm on a 1,400-mile fundraising relay as part of its Lite@Nite charity campaign.

Kicking off on 17 August in Inverness, the mammoth challenge will see staff from all the Thistle venues running, swimming or cycling to the next property on the route in order to raise money for five leading children's charities.

DeNoma will lead the final leg of the 28-day challenge which will culminate on the same finish line as the one used by the athletes competing in the World Triathlon Championships in Hyde Park.

“The Lite@Nite fundraising campaign is important to all at Thistle Hotels and we are thrilled to bring together so many of our people in a sporting challenge of nationwide proportions," DeNoma said.

"Teams throughout our network of hotels are motivated, in training and enjoying fundraising for such a fantastic cause – I am proud to be part of this effort. Our Lite@Nite initiative is a long term plan to make a small contribution towards supporting the most vulnerable."

As well as the relay, a number of mini kid's triathlons will be held in five regions along the route and a party will be held to recognise the children from the regional events who have raised the most.
