The Hungry Guest, which operates a food store and café on two sites in Petworth, is opening a new café and dining experience in West Malling, Kent.

The business, which is headed up by Danish ‘master baker’ Troels Bendix, has taken the site previously occupiece by Mackenzie’s Café, which will re-open towards the end of the year.

The dining area will serve freshly prepared, handmade food using local and seasonal produce, and the café will offer freshly baked sour dough and croissants throughout the week.

As well as their current shop and café sites they produce award winning artisan breads and patisserie products in their own bakery.

Bendix initially trained as a chef at the Culinary Institute of Denmark before moving to London to work at the Sugar Club in 1999. In 2001, he founded Breads Etcetera, growing from a one-man band to a bakery with its own shop and cafe, supplying top London outlets.

In 2010, he took on his current role as managing director of Market Town Foods, the parent company of The Hungry Guest.
