Smiths of Smithfield is to launch a new all-day dining concept called SMITHS on the site of John Torode's former restaurant The Luxe in London’s Spitalfields Market next month.

The company told BigHospitality's sister publication M&C Report that it was not looking to make SMITHS a 'mega-brand', but that there may be 'opportunities' it would choose to explore in London for further sites under the concept. 

SMITHS Spitalfields, which will open on 5 September, will be an all-day dining venue that celebrates the best of British, bringing 'the unbeatable taste of British meat together with the finest British seasonal produce'.  

The new site will span four floors and feature The Loft, which will entertain private diners while the first floor dining room will 'honour the classics', alongside the celebrated rare breed beef, as well as serving traditional breakfasts on the weekend. 

The ground floor will be home to the SMITHS café during the day. In the evening, this floor transforms into a late night bar with a featured DJ booth. 

The Basement Bar on the lower ground floor will “showcase the very best in British talent on the rise with great DJs and a programme of live events”. 

Outside of the venue, guests will be able to enjoy a cold drink from the Juice and Smoothie bar, as well as hot rolls inspired by the venue’s signature dishes at the SMITHS market stalls. 

SMITHS operations director Colin Clarke said: “It is our intention with SMITHS to capitalise on the great heritage we’ve enjoyed at ‘Smiths’ of Smithfield to bring another hugely exciting venue to Spitalfields.

"Smiths of Smithfield has been an enduring part of London’s vibrant restaurant and bar scene for over a decade. It was one of the first all-day venues to offer a menu built around British meat, and quickly became renowned for using only the finest, rare breed beef. Our brand is both loved and cherished by its loyal customers, so we’re incredibly excited to bring the varied SMITHS experience to Spitalfields.”
