Sulston, who works at Sevenoaks School in Kent, beat five other finalists to win the title, along with a luxury weekend for two in Switzerland, home of Mövenpick ice cream.
“It was a tough hour,” said the chef, who also won Silver at Compass’ Senior Chef of the Year competition last year. “The standard of talent makes the win all the sweeter and I’m absolutely over the moon with the result.”
The winning dish consisted of caramelised Kentish pear, pear mousse, pecan crumble, vanilla fromage blanc, crisp pastry and Mövenpick pear sorbet.
The Mövenpick Gourmet Dessert Chef of the Year competition, run in partnership with the Craft Guild of Chefs, is now in its second yearand is designed to inspire creativity and realise the potential of desserts. The final took place at Westminster Kingsway College on Thursday, 12 September.
