Mark Greenaway's second restaurant Bistro Moderne will open in Stockbridge in December
Chef Mark Greenaway has announced plans to open a second restaurant - Bistro Moderne - in Edinburgh's Stockbridge area.

The 80-cover restaurant, which will be based on the style of a classic French bistro, will open on the site of the recently closed Café Fish on North West Circus Place next month and will serve a five-course grazing menu matched with whisky beer and spirits.

Opening seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with breakfast available Friday to Sunday, diners will be able to sit at tables within the main restaurant or at one of two bars, where there will be a no reservations policy in operation. The restaurant will also feature a dessert bar.

Greenaway said: "I’ve been looking for suitable opportunities for a second restaurant in Edinburgh for a while now. The Bistro will offer simpler versions of my restaurant dishes as well as introducing some new styles of food from my repertoire, all served in a friendly and relaxed setting.

“I’ll be using the same fresh Scottish ingredients that I use at Restaurant Mark Greenaway, just treating them slightly differently. And because Bistro will be open on a Sunday we’ll be serving amazing roasts of Aberdeen Angus beef and chicken. I’m quite excited about that. We’ll also have daily-changing blackboards for food and drinks and cocktails. And I currently have a few surprises up my sleeve. There’s a lot to look forward to.”

Partnership

Greenaway, who moved his eponymous restaurant to North Castle Street at the beginning of this year after his restaurant at No. 12 Picardy Place closed, has taken on the new restaurant with fiancée Nicola Jack. The pair will run the new site alongside business partners Sue and Jeremy Hitchen who operate Foodie Festivals.

Jeremy Hitchen said: “I am delighted that Mark Greenaway will be adding to the buoyant restaurant scene with his new Bistro Moderne in Stockbridge, which promises a Scottish take on a French concept, at very affordable prices.”

Earlier this month Greenaway launched the Mark Greenaway Award in association with independent brewer Innis & Gunn to help find Scotland’s best amateur pastry chef. The chef will also be appearing in a new BBC Two documentary Teen Canteen later this month.
