The search is on for the pub industry’s top licensee as the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) has opened entries for the 29th Licensee of the Year Awards.

Each year, the BII celebrates excellence in the licensed trade through these awards, which are designed to recognise those who demonstrate outstanding achievement, effort and passion whilst working within the pub industry.

“Make no mistake, if you claim the title of BII Licensee of the Year, you really are the best of the best.” said the BII's chief executive Tim Hulme.

"No stone is left unturned in their pursuit of the winning candidate, or candidates as we saw last year with the outstanding husband and wife team, Kelly and Ashley McCarthy."

The BII Licensee of the Year 2014 will be revealed at the BII Annual Lunch, which takes place at Grosvenor House Hotel in May 2014. All UK licensees can enter the 2013 BII Licensee of the Year, regardless of BII membership. To enter, licensees should visit www.bii.org/loya and complete the first stage entry online.

The McCarthy's, co-owners of the freehold of the Ye Old Sun Inn pub in North Yorkshire, revealed their top tips for fellow licensees here.
