New Moon hits Manchester
The group, which launched in 2012 and currently has four sites in the North West, is opening its first Manchester venture – Beef & Pudding – in March.
“Manchester is a thriving city, where quality is recognised and expected,” said Newman. “We’re excited to bring our brand of dining experience to the area and we know it will meet the strict criteria for excellence demanded by city diners.”
Mooney, who spent 21 years in the kitchens of Belle Epoque in Knutsford, added: “We'll be giving the beef and pudding back to the people of Manchester.
“This is an exciting project for us, and personally for me, as I was born just a stone's throw from the site at St Mary's Hospital.”
Formerly The Crown on Booth Street, Beef & Pudding will be another food-focused pub for New Moon, with a focus on local produce. “We are diligent about using premium quality produce and where possible source products locally, as there are so many wonderful producers on our doorstep,” added Mooney.
Location inspiration
The pub will also offer a range of ales, wines and a bespoke list of cocktails. A full interior refurbishment and the installation of a state-of-the-art kitchen will lead to the creation of 20 to 30 new jobs for bar, kitchen and waiting staff when the venue opens.
Beef & Pudding is inspired by the location, close to St Peter's Square – its name is a reference to a famed caricature of the Peterloo Massacre by George Cruikshank, when a soldier said: “Give them no quarter, they want to take our beef and pudding from us.’

Beef & Pudding will open on the corner of Fountain and Booth Street in Manchester in March.
