The People 1st Training Company is offering two free resources to Scotland's hospitality and tourism businesses to help them make the most of this year's major sporting and tourism events.

With Scotland set to host the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and the Scottish Homecoming this year, the training provider has decided to launch a free online guide called Ahead of the Games which advises businesses how they can capitalise on these events and offers advice on employee engagement, skills and training.

People 1st is also giving away free passes to the WorldHost Insights customer service e-learning programme to businesses with up to 250 staff.

The programme, which was used to prepare some staff and volunteers for the London 2012 Olympic Games, gives staff a one-and-a-half hour introduction on how to connect with customers, communicate effectively with disabled customers and those from other cultures and go the extra mile in service.

David Allen, director of Scotland for People 1st, said: “This is going to be a pivotal year for the Scottish visitor economy and it’s important that businesses don’t miss out on the opportunities provided by increased visitor numbers and media attention,"
