Former Green King director Simon Longbottom has been appointed as the new chief executive of Stonegate Pub Company.

Stonegate said Longbottom, who was managing director of Pub Partners at Greene King and previously held senior positions at M&B and Mill House Inns, would bring a ‘wealth of experience’ to the role.

He will take over from Toby Smith, who announced his intention to leave Stonegate last week.

Stonegate said Smith would work with Longbottom to ‘ensure a smooth handover of the business and build on the group’s recent growth.

Smith joined Stonegate in June 2011 after the company acquired the Town and City Pub Company, which he led since 2008.

Stonegate chairman Ian Payne said Smith had made a ‘massive contribution’ to the success of the group.
