Asian buffet restaurant group Mimosa has signed up to rent 14,500sq.ft of restaurant space in the Cordwell Property Group’s Littleton Centre in Walsall.

Mimosa will be joining Vue Cinemas in the Littleton Centre, which is expected to be the town’s new premier leisure destination. The Mimosa deal is the biggest West Midlands letting in the last 12 months.

Brand expansion

The Mimosa restaurants brand specialises in Asian food and is run as a buffet. It features recipes from all over Asia including countries such as India, China, Malaysia and Thailand.

The firm is expanding at a significant rate and is due to open restaurants in leisure schemes at a number of UK locations including Southwater in Telford, Baxter Gate in Loughborough, Aldershot and Camberley.

The restaurant in the Littleton centre will have about 370 covers and employ more than 40 local people.

Director of Mimosa Restaurants Sunny Grewal said: “The opportunity to be part of the Littleton Centre was too good to miss. Its location, visibility and accessibility made it the number one choice to open our largest restaurant to date. The opening of the Vue cinema will create a huge footfall and buzz in this part of the town and with all the future developments planned in the close vicinity we wanted to be part of Cordwell’s success story in Walsall.”

Cordwell Property Group's Tom Wilcox said: “We are delighted to have signed up Mimosa as part of the restaurant offer for the leisure scheme. We are aware of their current roll out programme and were impressed by the high quality fit out and food they offer.

More restaurant operators to come

The announcement that Mimosa will be joining the Littleton Centre follows on from the news of the Cordwell Property Group exchanging legally binding contracts with Vue Cinemas in January for a nine screen cinema to join the development. The group believes the scheme will attract more restaurants to the town and has the potential to create a number of new jobs. Wilcox hopes to be in a position to announce further lettings in the coming weeks.

He said: “The interest to date from other restaurant operators has been encouraging and we have two further units in solicitors’ hands, indicating their confidence in the Vue Cinemas scheme as the premier leisure destination in Walsall."

Work on the scheme is planned to commence next month and it is due for completion in spring 2015.
