Eden Hotel Collection, the luxury boutique hotel operator, has increased its footprint in the South West with the £12m acquisition of the Tides Reach hotel in Salcombe, Devon.

The privately-owned company, which owns eight hotels across the Midlands and South West regions, acquired the 35-bedroom Tides Reach from the Edwards family, who have owned the property for 47 years.

Eden Hotel Collection’s managing director Mark Chambers said: “We are delighted to expand further into the South West, where our parent company, The Rigby Group plc, already has strong business links through its ownership of Exeter Airport and British International Helicopters.

“Tides Reach will add to our existing luxury hotels in Somerset and Kingsbridge, establishing a firm presence for Eden Hotel Collection in the region. The new Tides Reach is an exciting development and we very much look forward to being part of the Salcombe community.”

Chambers added that a core value of the Eden Hotel Collection is to integrate into the community, building links with local businesses and suppliers. The group is keen to make a positive impact on the local economy in Salcombe, with around 100 jobs being created as a result of this investment.

The group have confirmed that the hotel will remain closed while an extensive redevelopment takes place to create a 50-bedroom hotel on the existing plot. An extensive public consultation is scheduled for this spring, with the planning application being submitted in late summer and the hotel being opened in time for the 2016 season.

The new waterfront hotel, complete with spa, private beach and a terrace with sea views, will offer high quality and contemporary dining. The Eden Hotel Collection has become known for its commitment to seasonal ingredients sourced from local suppliers and for its dedication to the guest experience.

The company is part of The Rigby Group, which has a business portfolio spanning hotels, aviation, technology, property and investments. The Rigby Group’s other firms in the South West include Exeter Airport and British International Helicopters.

In addition to Tides Reach, Eden Hotel Collection has seven luxury hotels and spas including Buckland Tout-Saints Hotel, Devon; The Mount Somerset Hotel and Spa, Somerset; The Kings Hotel, Chipping Campden; The Arden Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon; Brockencote Hall Hotel, Worcestershire; The Greenway Hotel and Spa, Cheltenham; and Mallory Court Hotel, Leamington Spa;

Brockencote Hall Hotel, which Eden acquired in July 2011, was last week named as a finalist in the Small Hotel of the Year category of the 2014 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.
