Pubs selling burger meals cheaper than fast food chains
Pubs are now competing with fast food restaurants on burger meal prices, according to research from Shore Capital.

The average price for a burger and chips in a pub is now £5, while a Big Mac meal costs £4.89 and a Burger King Whopper meal sells for £5.89.

Shore Capital said fast food chains have been forced to raise prices, but pub chains remain reluctant to do so.

The price of a Big Mac has increased a whopping 30 per cent since 2008 to £2.79, but the average main meal at Hungry Horse increased just 6.7 per cent between 2008 and 2013 to £5.03.

A burger, chips and a coke from Hungry Horse costs £4.99 – which is equivalent to a medium Big Mac meal.

Furthermore, pub burgers are on average bigger than those from fast food chain, with a Big Mac weighing in a 3.2 oz compared to an average pub burger weight of 6-8oz.
