The survey carried out in April asked the public to choose one restaurant brand that they would like to open closer to where they live. Nando’s came out on top, with the rest of the top five consisting of Weatherspoon’s, Harvester, TGI Friday’s and Wagamama.
When taking into account different areas of the UK, Nando’s was the favourite in Scotland, the North West, West Midlands and the South East, while Wetherspoons took the lead in The North East, Yorkshire and the South West. Harvestor won out in Wales and the East Midlands, while Toby Carvery won in East Anglia and Wagamama was London’s favourite.
CGA Peach vice president Peter Martin said: “Big brands regularly come up against councils and developers keen to keep them out. The public, however, generally have a more positive view. Although around five per cent didn’t want any, large numbers welcome the reliability that branded chains bring. It’s about choice.”
