Seafish’s National Fish & Chip Awards has gotten off to a good start since the launch of the competition and businesses only have a short time left to enter.

The awards celebrate the traditional UK dish and are now in their 27th year. They are open to both restaurants and takeaways throughout the country.

The winner of the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop 2014, Stuart Fusco of Quayside in Whitby, North Yorkshire said: “I cannot tell you what it meant to us to be named the best fish and chip takeaway in the UK. Our family business worked extremely hard to be recognised and finally walking away with the top prize was a real milestone for our business.

“The National Fish & Chip Awards gives businesses the chance to challenge themselves. They recognise the hard work and dedication that goes into everything from customer service, quality assurance and sustainability to just creating great tasting fish and chips. I would definitely recommend any fish and chip business to enter , I will be looking forward to seeing all the entries this year.”

A number of businesses have seen increased profile and sales after winning, with The Bay Fish & Chips in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire reporting a 100 per cent increase in sales after winning Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in 2013.

Many of the award categories close for entry on the 18 July. Businesses can enter the awards by downloading a form from www.fishandchipawards.com.

Well done Quayside guys!

UK Small businesses are at last it seems riding the wave again, but it's not been plain sailing for them in any shape. Any small restaurant who has survived the last 5-10 years should be commended. We're championing George Osborne's committment to alternative funding for small businesses through crowdfunding or business cash advancestyle products. It's great to see this award up for grabs again next year and will be making it known to our customers.
