Now in its sixth year, the competition is open to restaurant managers or people working in similar roles in hospitality, as long as they are responsible for the performance of a business, managing people, staff training and coordinating the operation of a restaurant.
Entry forms can be downloaded at www.restaurantmanageroftheyear.co.uk, and the best entries will be selected for one of two semi-finals in London or the Midlands on 29 September. Entries close on 30 August 2014.
The semi-finals will include an interview to test candidates’ knowledge of the job and the hospitality industry, as well as a business scenario in front of a panel of judges, for which participants will be given 14 days to prepare.
For the first time this year, the top candidates from the semi-finals will receive a visit from the judges at their own establishment, to assess service standards and training.
The winner will be announced at a Gala Dinner Awards Ceremony at London’s Roof Gardens on 17 November 2014.
Last year’s winner, BaxterStorey restaurant manager Janine Swales, said the competition had given her a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.
