MediaCityUK Manchester has submitted plans to Salford City Council for a new 54,000.sq.ft building development by Salford Quays which will include a Premier Inn hotel.

The Premier Inn will have 112 rooms and will take up four floors of the proposed 10-storey building.

If the plans are approved, construction work will begin at the end of this year with the building reaching completion in late 2015. The hotel will open in early 2016.

Acquisitions manager for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurant Nick Johnston said: “We are excited to be proposing a new 112-bedroom Premier Inn in MediaCityUK.

“MediaCityUK is a vibrant and fast-growing digital and media hub and our proposals would drive a further £7m of fresh investment into the area and create 40 new jobs, around half of which would be offered to those who are long-term unemployed.

“Our proposals would provide high-quality and affordable accommodation to business and leisure visitors in this fantastic location. We look forward to Salford City Council’s decision.”

Further option for visitors

MediaCityUK believes the new hotel will enhance the area’s appeal as a visitor destination. There is already a Holiday Inn hotel at the quays and some serviced apartments known as TheHeart, but the new Premier Inn would offer an additional choice as visitor numbers to the area rise.

Managing director of MediaCityUK Stephen Wild said: “As MediaCityUK’s business community has thrived and our leisure offering has grown, so has its reputation as a go-to destination. The arrival of a new hotel will service both those here doing business or visiting.”

The recent development of the area has increased business for restaurants and hotels nearby, including those in the Lowry Outlet Mall such as Pizza Express, Bella Italia and Café Rouge.

MediaCityUK also hosts a hospitality and catering training centre which was created in a partnership with Salford City College and includes a 140-cover fine dining restaurant.
