This year’s National Chef of the Year (NCOTY) competition will see the Exceptional Presentation Award winner chosen by the public over social media.

Tableware manufacturer Churchill 1795, which sponsors the award, will invite people to vote over its three social media channels, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The group will post pictures of each course created by the finalists online on 7 October from 1pm onwards as the dishes are completed. The voting will be cut off at 4pm and votes across all three courses will be counted for each finalist.

The finalist with the most votes will receive a framed award plate and £250 worth of Churchill 1795’s products.

People’s choice

The award celebrates the detail that chefs put into plate presentation and is in its third year. In the past the winner was decided by Churchill’s head of new product development, but this year the group intends to give the public the opportunity to get involved with the competition.

Donna Frosdick from Churchill 1795 said: “The competition is such an important event in the UK chef calendar and its prestigious nature means people are really interested in seeing the final dishes.

“By opening up the award to public judging it’s a great way for everyone to get involved in the final by voting for their favourites.”

To count, all votes must be cast on Churchill 1795’s social media accounts. The group will take into account the number of retweets and favourites plates get on Twitter, likes and shares they get on Facebook, and likes they receive on Instagram.

Previous winners of the Exceptional Presentation Award include David Bush in 2013 and Hayden Groves in 2012, who went on to win National Chef of the Year 2013.

The final of the competition will take place at The Restaurant Show on 7 October and the full list of finalists can be found here.
