French hotel group Mama Shelter has announced plans to open a site in London after global operator Accor acquired a 35 per cent stake in its capital.

The partnership between the two brands gives Mama Shelter access to Accor’s development and distribution network, allowing it to accelerate its openings. Mama Shelter will open 20 new sites in the next five years in Europe and the USA, including a hotel in London.

The acquisition also allows Accor to expand its offering with a different type of hotel. Mama Shelter is a budget hotel brand which offers an ‘urban retreat’ experience in a number of large French cities.

Chairman and chief executive of Accor Sébastien Bazin said: "This agreement is the outcome of a beautiful encounter and a shared desire to learn from our respective talents.

“I am very happy to be embarking on this new adventure. Thanks to this partnership, Accor is enriched by the original know-how that has made Mama Shelter such a splendid success."

General manager of Mama Shelter Jérémie Trigano added: “We are pleased and proud to welcome Accor alongside us. Its presence will allow Mama to benefit from a major international platform and to share our philosophy with an even greater tribe.”
