International hotel group Accor has announced plans to open a Mercure hotel in Edinburgh and an ibis Styles in Glasgow in 2015.

The new Mercure hotel in Edinburgh will be opened with franchise partner Edinburgh City Hotels Limited and will open in the spring of 2015.

The ibis Styles hotel in Glasgow will be opened in a franchise agreement with MCTH Trading Limited, and will open in the autumn of 2015.

The opening of the two new hotels will increase Accor’s Scotland portfolio to 20 hotels. The announcement demonstrates the group’s intention to continuing growing its business in Scotland, where it employs almost 1000 people.

Managing director of Accor UK & Ireland Thomas Dubaere said: “These new hotels will help us to expand the Accor brands in Scotland, where our business is already enjoying great success.

“We’re especially pleased to be working with franchise partners for these economy and midscale hotels, as these are segments where we see a lot of growth potential. Scotland is an important region for us, with its enviable tourism industry and flourishing business ecosystem, so we continue to seek new opportunities to grow and participate in the local economy.”

Accor’s new midscale Mercure hotel will be located at 38 Gardner’s Crescent in the town centre. It will have 110 rooms, each with its own Apple TV. The hotel will also offer high speed internet throughout the building.

This hotel follows a recent spate of Accor openings in Edinburgh, including three ibis Styles hotels which opened there in 2014.

ibis Styles Glasgow

Accor’s new Glasgow hotel will be located in the Telfer House building on Miller Street, which is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment. It will be the city’s first ibis Styles, and will be managed and operated by Glasgow-based hotel management company Redefine|BDL Hotels.

The eight-storey budget hotel will have 101 bedrooms and will be refurbished in a way that draws ‘inspiration from local surroundings and culture’.
