Chefs are being encouraged to enter a new competition championing the best of British seaside food.

The Seaside Chef of the Year Award has been created by Aspect Bar and Bistro in Morecombe with the aim of changing the public perception of coastal dining.

Entries are open to any chef excluding celebrity and TV personalities and those working in hotel or restaurant chains who do not have control over their menus.

“We need to shift perceptions and stop seaside food in Britain being viewed as nothing more than soggy fish and chips, burgers and hot dogs," said Aspect Bar and Bistro’s owner, Paul Bury.

“This competition will allow us to showcase some of the passionate chefs working in seaside resorts who are creating quality dishes that incorporate local produce, inventive twists and first-class presentation.”

To enter, eateries or chefs need to submit a three course menu detailing each dishes' price and presentation. Entrants must also include 200 words on why they deserve the Seaside Chef of the Year title.

The winner will receive a trophy and be able to use their success to promote their venue to the public.

All entries will be judged by Aspect’s owner, Paul Bury, head chef, Gavin Riley and guest judges.

Two finalists will be invited to a cook-off and gala dinner at Aspect in October 2015, where the winner will be chosen.

The deadline for entries is 1 September, the entry form and full rules can be downloaded here.
